Main bearing thickness selection

    Grade number of each crankshaft main journal is punched on the respective crankshaft. These numbers are punched in either Arabic or Roman numerals.
    This is item (b).

    Select main bearing with suitable thickness according to the following table.
    This is item (c).
    A connecting rod / main bearing shell showing the oil hole, oil groove and identification color location. Callouts: 'Oil hole', 'Oil groove', 'Front' arrow, 'Identification color'.

Connecting rod bearing (Big end)

    Install connecting rod bearing to connecting rod and cap.
  2. 2
    Install connecting rod cap to connecting rod.
    Tighten bolts to the specified torque.
  3. 3
    Measure inner diameter "C" of each bearing.
    A bore gauge / inside micrometer measuring the inner diameter 'C' of a connecting rod big-end bearing with the cap installed.

    Measure outer diameter "Dp" of each crankshaft pin journal.
    A micrometer measuring the outer diameter 'Dp' of a crankshaft pin journal.

    Calculate connecting rod bearing clearance.
  6. 6
    If it exceeds the limit, replace bearing.
  7. 7
    If clearance cannot be adjusted within the standard of any bearing, grind crankshaft journal and use undersized bearing. Refer to step 7 of "BEARING CLEARANCE — Main bearing".
