    Install rocker shaft with rocker arms (continued).
    Ensure that cutout in center retainer of rocker shaft faces toward exhaust manifold side.
    Rocker shaft assembly with rocker arms, front direction indicated by an arrow on the left.

    Tighten rocker shaft bolts.
    Make sure that valve clearance adjusting screws are fully loosened.
    Tighten bolts gradually, in two or three stages, outward from center position.

    Install new bolt stopper on No. 1 and 5 bolts.

    Adjust valve clearance.
    1. Set No. 1 cylinder in top dead center on its compression stroke, and adjust valve clearance 1, 2, 3 and 6.
    2. Set No. 4 cylinder in top dead center on its compression stroke, and adjust valve clearance 4, 5, 7 and 8.
