VALVE LIFTER

Valve Lifter Inspection

  1. 1
    Check contact and sliding surfaces for wear or scratches.
    Valve lifter shown as a cylinder with two arrows (one pointing down from the top, one pointing in from the right side) indicating the contact and sliding surfaces to check for wear or scratches.

    Check diameter of valve lifter and valve lifter guide bore.
    A micrometer measuring the diameter of a valve lifter held in the jaws of the instrument.

Assembly

  1. 1
    Install valve component parts.
    Always use new valve oil seal. Refer to OIL SEAL REPLACEMENT.
    Before installing valve oil seal, install valve spring seat.
    After installing valve component parts, use plastic hammer to lightly tap valve stem tip to assure a proper fit.
    Install uneven pitch type spring with its narrow pitch end toward cylinder head. (Identification color side down, if present.)

Installation

This installation is the same procedure as those for timing chain. Refer to "Installation" in "TIMING CHAIN".
