CYLINDER HEAD — Installation

CD engine. Separate cylinder head bolt tightening sequences for CD20 (88±5 N·m / 75°) and CD17 (103±5 N·m / 82°). Section tab marked 'CD'.

Cylinder Head Installation

Install cylinder head gasket.
a. When replacing only cylinder head gasket, install same grade gasket as the one formerly used.
b. When replacing or repairing cylinder block, piston, connecting rod and crankshaft, select gasket referring to "Selecting cylinder head gasket".

Install cylinder head and tighten cylinder head bolts according to the following sequence.

Tightening procedure

Apply engine oil to threads and underhead seating face of each bolt.

For CD20:

For CD20 — Tighten bolts progressively in the following steps

Tighten to 39 N·m (4.0 kg-m, 29 ft-lb)

Tighten to 88 ± 5 N·m (9.0 ± 0.5 kg-m, 65.1 ± 3.6 ft-lb)

Return to 0 N·m (0 kg-m, 0 ft-lb)

Tighten to 39 N·m (4.0 kg-m, 29 ft-lb)
5
Tighten to 75 +5/-0 degrees
If it is difficult to check tightening angle of bolt, tighten to 83 to 93 N·m (8.5 to 9.5 kg-m, 61 to 69 ft-lb).

For CD17:

For CD17 — Tighten bolts progressively in the following steps

Tighten to 39 N·m (4.0 kg-m, 29 ft-lb)

Tighten to 103 ± 5 N·m (10.5 ± 0.5 kg-m, 76 ± 3.6 ft-lb)

Return to 0 N·m (0 kg-m, 0 ft-lb)

Tighten to 39 N·m (4.0 kg-m, 29 ft-lb)
5
Tighten to 82 +5/-0 degrees
If it is difficult to check tightening angle of bolt, tighten to 98 to 108 N·m (10.0 to 11.0 kg-m, 72 to 80 ft-lb).
