Disassembly

Piston and Crankshaft

  1. 1
Place engine on a work stand.
Engine mounted on a work stand with special tools attached. Tool references labeled: ST0501S000, KV10106500, and KV10113300 point to engine stand and attachment components.

  2. 2
    Drain coolant and oil.
  3. 3
Remove timing chain. Refer to "Removal" in "TIMING CHAIN".
  4. 4
    Remove pistons with connecting rod.
When disassembling piston and connecting rod, remove snap ring first, then heat piston to 60 to 70°C (140 to 158°F) or use piston pin press stand at room temperature.
Piston heater shown as a box-shaped appliance with a connecting rod and piston assembly resting on top, illustrating heating the piston to remove the piston pin.

  5. 5
    Remove bearing caps and crankshaft.
Before removing bearing caps, measure crankshaft end play.
Bolts should be loosened in two or three steps.
Top view of the cylinder block / main bearing cap area with bearing caps numbered, showing the order in which bolts should be loosened. A 'Front' arrow at top-left indicates engine orientation. Caption notes 'Loosen in numerical order.'

Inspection

Piston and Piston Pin Clearance

  1. 1
Measure inner diameter of piston pin hole "dp".
A dial gauge / inside micrometer being used to measure the inner diameter of the piston pin hole 'dp' on a piston held by hand.
    SEM149B
Standard diameter "dp"(0.7475 - 0.7480 in)
18.987 - 18.999mm
