Piston and Crankshaft Disassembly

    Place engine on a work stand.
    Engine mounted on a work stand using engine stand attachments ST05015S000 and KV10106101. Shows the engine block clamped to a rotating engine stand.

    Drain coolant and oil.

    Remove timing belt.
  4. 4
    Remove water pump.
  5. 5
    Remove oil pan and oil pump.
  6. 6
    Remove cylinder head.
  7. 7
    Remove pistons.
    When disassembling piston and connecting rod, heat piston to 60 to 70°C (140 to 158°F) or use piston pin press stand at room temperature.
    Piston with connecting rod being heated on a heater fixture. Labels indicate 'Piston with connecting rod' and 'Heater'.

    Remove bearing cap and crankshaft.
    Place the bearings and caps in their proper order.
    Upper bearings (cylinder block side) have oil groove.
    Diagram of main bearing cap bolt loosening order on the crankshaft. Bolts are numbered 1 through 10 in two rows; instruction reads 'Loosen in numerical order.'
