CYLINDER HEAD
EM-111prose procedureDistinguishes SR20DE (remove with intake and exhaust manifolds; lash adjusters) vs SR20DET (remove with intake manifold; rocker pivots).
CAUTION
When installing sliding parts such as rocker arms, camshaft and oil seal, be sure to apply new engine oil on their sliding surfaces.
When tightening cylinder head bolts, camshaft sprocket bolts and camshaft bracket bolts, apply new engine oil to thread portions and seat surfaces of bolts.
IMPORTANT
If a hydraulic lash adjuster is kept on its side, there is a risk of air entering it. After removal, always set hydraulic lash adjuster straight up, or when laying it on its side, have it soak in new engine oil.
Do not disassemble hydraulic lash adjusters.
Attach tags to lash adjusters so as not to mix them up.
Removal
Cylinder Head Removal
- 1SR20DE: Remove cylinder head with intake and exhaust manifolds. SR20DET: Remove cylinder head with intake manifold. This removal is the same procedure as that for timing chain. Refer to 'Removal' in TIMING CHAIN.
Disassembly
Cylinder Head Disassembly
- 1SR20DE: Remove rocker arms, shims, rocker arm guides and hydraulic lash adjusters from cylinder head. SR20DET: Remove rocker arms, shims, rocker arm guides and rocker pivots from cylinder head.Keep parts in order so that they can be installed in their original positions during assembly.
