CYLINDER HEAD — Assembly

CD engine. Distinct procedures for CD17 (valve lifter plate, adjust valve clearance) vs CD20 (valve spring retainers on intake, valve rotators on exhaust). Section tab marked 'CD'.

Cylinder Head Assembly

    Install valve component parts. Install valve spring with its narrow pitch side toward cylinder head side.
    Always install new valve oil seals. Refer to oil seal replacement.
    Before installing oil seal, install valve-spring seat.
    When installing valve, apply engine oil on the valve stem and lip of valve oil seal.
    Check whether the valve face is free from foreign matter.

    Install camshaft and brackets and tighten bracket nuts to the specified torque in two or three stages.
    Camshaft-bracket nuts tightening torque: 18 - 22 N·m (1.8 - 2.2 kg-m, 13 - 16 ft-lb)
    Tighten bracket from center to outside.
    Apply sealant to brackets No. 1 and No. 5.
    When installing brackets, set camshaft so that the pin of camshaft front head is uppermost.
    Install new camshaft oil seals. Refer to oil seal replacement.

For CD17:
Install valve lifter plate. Adjust valve clearance.
For CD20:
Install valve spring retainers on the intake side and valve rotators on the exhaust side. Valve rotators cannot be disassembled.
