Timing Chain - Removal
EM-24prose procedureStep 2 (release fuel pressure) and step 5 air-intake removal differ between GA16DE and 'Except for GA16DE'. Rocker cover bolt loosening order differs by engine type (separate diagrams).
CAUTION
After removing timing chain, do not turn crankshaft and camshaft separately, or valves will strike piston heads.
Removal
- 1Drain engine coolant from radiator and cylinder block.Be careful not to spill coolant on drive belts.
SEM398D - 2Release fuel pressure (GA16DE). Refer to 'Releasing Fuel Pressure' in section EF & EC.
- 3Remove the following belts: Power steering pump drive belt; Alternator drive belt; Air conditioner drive belt.
- 4Remove power steering pump bracket.
- 5Remove air cleaner. (Except for GA16DE). Remove air duct to intake manifold collector. (GA16DE)
- 6Remove front right-side wheel.
- 7Remove front right-side splash cover.
- 8Remove front undercovers.
- 9Remove front exhaust tube.
- 10Remove engine front mounting bracket.
SEM399D - 11Remove rocker cover.Loosen in numerical order.
SEM400D - 12Remove distributor cap.
- 13Remove all spark plugs.
- 14Remove intake manifold support.
- 15Set No. 1 piston at T.D.C. on its compression stroke.
