ENTIRE SYSTEM CHECK

Set voltmeter between glow plug and engine body.

Key-in glow system

  1. 1
Read voltage when ignition key is inserted into ignition switch. Voltage: Battery voltage for about 3 seconds.
Timing chart for Key-in glow system. Rows: Ignition key (START/ON/IN/OUT) and Voltage (BATTERY / 0 V). Shows battery voltage applied for about 3 seconds after key-in.
    SEC555B

Quick-glow (Pre-glow) system

  1. 1
Turn ignition switch "ON" 3 or more seconds after key-in.
Timing chart for Quick-glow (Pre-glow) system. Rows: Ignition key (START/ON/IN/OUT) and Voltage (BATTERY / 0 V). Shows battery voltage for about 20 seconds when ignition switch turned ON 3+ seconds after key-in.
    SEC556B
  2. 2
Read voltage. Voltage: Battery voltage for about 20* seconds. * Coolant temperature is lower than 60°C (140°F). * Repeating ignition key "ON" and "OFF" may change the time.
Coolant temperature is lower than 60°C (140°F).
Repeating ignition key "ON" and "OFF" may change the time.

Quick-glow (Cranking) system

  1. 1
Disconnect "S" terminal for starter motor to prevent engine from cranking.
Timing chart for Quick-glow (Cranking) system. Rows: Ignition key (START/ON/IN/OUT) and Voltage (BATTERY / 0 V) with break marks. Shows battery voltage when ignition key turned to START with 'S' terminal disconnected.
    SEC557B
  2. 2
Read voltage when ignition key is turned to "START". Voltage: Battery voltage*. * For about 20 seconds after returning ignition switch to "ON".
