5. Power Supply Circuit (Cranking)
TEST METHODSee fig1 (SEL641B)
CONDITIONS1. Connect voltmeter as illustrated and set to appropriate scale. 2. Pull out coil wire from distributor cap and ground it. 3. Turn key to "START" position and observe voltmeter while engine is cranking.
RESULTVoltage reading is less than 1 volt below battery cranking voltage and is greater than 8.6 volts.
ACTIONProceed to Step 6.

RESULTVoltage reading is more than 1 volt below battery cranking voltage and/or is below 8.6 volts.
ACTIONCheck ignition switch and wiring from switch to IC unit.
6. Ignition Primary Circuit

CONDITIONS1. Connect voltmeter as illustrated and set to appropriate scale. 2. Ignition key in "ON" position.
RESULT11.5 - 12.5 volts
ACTIONProceed to Step 8.

7. Ignition Coil Primary Circuit

CONDITIONS1. Ignition key in "OFF" position. 2. Coil wire removed from coil. 3. Connect ohmmeter as illustrated.
RESULT1.04 - 1.27 ohms
ACTIONIgnition coil primary winding O.K. Check ignition switch and wiring from ignition switch to coil and IC unit.
7. Ignition Coil Primary Circuit

CONDITIONS
RESULTResistance reading not between 1.04 - 1.27 ohms
ACTIONFaulty ignition coil — replace.
8. I.C. Unit Ground Circuit
TEST METHODSee fig4 (SEL643B)
CONDITIONS1. Connect voltmeter as illustrated and set to appropriate scale. 2. Pull out coil wire from distributor cap and ground it. 3. Turn key to "START" position and observe voltmeter while engine is cranking.
RESULT0.5 volts or less
ACTIONReplace IC ignition unit assembly.
8. I.C. Unit Ground Circuit
TEST METHOD
CONDITIONS
RESULTMore than 0.5 volts
ACTIONCheck distributor ground, wiring from chassis ground to battery including battery cable connections.
