Diagnostic Procedure 12 — Engine Stalls when the Engine is Cold

CHECK AIR REGULATOR AND A.A.C. VALVE. When the engine is cold, can you start the engine when pressing accelerator pedal fully?
N.G.
Check A.A.C. valve, air regulator and circuits. (See pages EF & EC-600, 606.)
O.K.

PERFORM POWER BALANCE TEST. 1. Perform "POWER BALANCE" in "ACTIVE TEST" mode. 2. Is there any cylinder which does not produce a momentary engine speed drop? — OR — When disconnecting each injector harness connector one at a time, is there any cylinder which does not produce a momentary engine speed drop?
No
Go to 6.
Yes

CHECK INJECTOR. 1. Remove distributor from engine. (Crank angle sensor harness connector should remain connected.) 2. Disconnect ignition wires. 3. Turn ignition switch ON. (Do not start engine.) 4. When rotating distributor shaft slowly by hand, does each injector make an operating sound?
N.G.
Check injector(s) or circuit(s).
O.K.

CHECK IGNITION SPARK. 1. Disconnect ignition wire from spark plug. 2. Connect a known good spark plug to the ignition wire. 3. Place end of spark plug against a suitable ground and crank engine. 4. Check for spark.

Check ignition coil, power transistor and circuits. (See page EF & EC-576.)
