CONDITIONS1. Ignition key in "OFF" position. 2. Connect voltmeter as illustrated and set to appropriate scale. 3. Read and record battery voltage reading.

ACTIONBattery, charging system or starting system — Faulty. Refer to applicable section in Service Manual to correct the situation.
2. Battery Cranking Voltage
TEST METHODSee fig2 (SEL103)
CONDITIONS1. Connect voltmeter as illustrated and set to appropriate scale. 2. Remove coil wire from distributor cap and ground it. 3. Read voltmeter while cranking engine for approximately 15 seconds. 4. Record battery cranking voltage reading.
RESULTVoltage reading greater than 9.6 volts
ACTIONBattery O.K. Proceed to Step 3.

ACTIONBattery, charging system or starting system — Faulty. Refer to applicable sections in Service Manual to correct the situation.
3. Ignition Coil Secondary Circuit

CONDITIONS1. Ignition key in "OFF" position. 2. Remove coil wire from coil. 3. Connect ohmmeter as illustrated.
RESULTSpecified value (Refer to "Service Data and Specifications".)
ACTIONIgnition coil secondary windings — O.K. Proceed to Step 4.

ACTIONFaulty ignition coil — replace.
4. Power Supply Circuit

CONDITIONS1. Connect voltmeter as illustrated and set to appropriate scale. 2. Turn ignition key to "ON" position.
RESULT11.5 - 12.5 volts
ACTIONProceed to Step 5.
