Diagnostic Procedure (Cont'd)

  1. 7
When measuring E.C.U. controlled components supply voltage with a circuit tester, separate one tester probe from the other. If the two tester probes accidentally make contact with each other during measurement, the circuit will be shorted, resulting in damage to the control unit power transistor.

Cartoon illustration warning against shorting the circuit when measuring E.C.U.-controlled component supply voltage with a circuit tester. Shows a solenoid valve connected via harness connector to the E.C.U.; a speech bubble reads "Battery voltage". A short circuit is illustrated at the "Harness connector for solenoid valve" with a character being shocked (labeled "N.G." for the wrong method). Below, a circuit tester is shown probing correctly (labeled "O.K."). Labels: Battery voltage, Short, Harness connector for solenoid valve, E.C.U., Solenoid valve, Circuit tester, N.G., O.K.
