Electrical Components Inspection (Cont'd)

EF & EC-347prose procedure

GA16DE engine (header tab).

Crank Angle Sensor

  1. 1
Remove distributor from engine. (Crank angle sensor harness connector should remain connected.)
  2. 2
    Disconnect ignition wires.
  3. 3
    Turn ignition switch "ON".
  4. 4
Rotate distributor shaft slowly by hand and check voltage between terminals ②, ① and ground.
Crank angle sensor / distributor with connector pin diagram (pins 1-2-3-4) on left and a circular distributor cap shown top-right with a curved arrow indicating 'Rotate slowly by hand.' Symbols on the left indicate connect/disconnect tester probes.
    SEF755K
  5. 5
Visually check signal plate for damage or dust.
Signal plate / reluctor disc of the crank angle sensor viewed from the front, showing the toothed signal plate inside the distributor body. A solid arrow points to a marking near the top right.

Crank Angle Sensor Voltage

① (180° signal)
VoltageTester's pointer fluctuates between 5V and 0V.
② (1° signal)
Voltage
If N.G., replace distributor assembly with crank angle sensor.

Air Flow Meter

  1. 1
Peel air flow meter harness connector rubber as shown in the figure if the harness connector is connected.
Air flow meter with harness connector rubber peeled back as shown for measuring voltage at terminal (c). Connector pin diagram (a-b-c-d) shown top-right, tester voltage probe symbols on left.
    SEF756H
  2. 2
    Turn ignition switch "ON".
  3. 3
Start engine and warm it up sufficiently.
  4. 4
Check voltage between terminal © and ground.
  5. 5
If N.G., remove air flow meter from air duct. Check hot wire for damage or dust.
Air flow meter removed from air duct, viewed looking into the meter bore with the hot wire element visible. A solid arrow points to the hot wire to check for damage or dust.
    SEF365H

Air Flow Meter Voltage

Ignition switch "ON" (Engine stopped.)
Voltage VLess than 1.0
Idle (Engine is warm-up sufficiently.)
