Carburetor - Automatic Choke (Cont'd) / Fast Idle

EF & EC-166spec table

Fast idle speeds differ by engine (GA13DS/GA14DS vs GA16DS), transmission (M/T vs A/T) and catalyzer fitment (* = models with catalyzer).

Automatic Choke (Cont'd)

Automatic Choke Circuit

  1. 1
Disconnect automatic choke relay and then connect a suitable jumper wire between terminals 1 and 4.
Automatic choke relay connector pin layout showing six terminals arranged as 4 (top), 5 and 3 (middle), 2 and 1 (bottom). Labeled 'Automatic choke relay'.
    SEF431K
  2. 2
Check resistance between connector terminal 2 and fuse. If N.G., check or repair the harness.
    Resistance: Approximately 0Ω

Automatic Choke Heater

  1. 1
    Disconnect carburetor harness connector.
  2. 2
Check for continuity between choke heater connector terminal 4 and choke housing. Continuity should exist.
    Continuity should exist.
Carburetor with ohmmeter connected for automatic choke heater continuity check, showing 'Without catalyzer' and 'With catalyzer' configurations.

Fast Idle (Automatic choke model)

  1. 1
Warm up engine. Set fast idle arm on 2nd step of fast idle cam.
Carburetor fast idle mechanism showing fast idle adjusting screw, fast idle arm, fast idle cam and the 2nd step callout.
