Engine Maintenance — Engine Coolant Change (Cont'd) / Cooling System Check (CD)

MA-53prose procedure

CD17 and CD20 diesel engine radiator cap relief pressures differ.

Engine Coolant Change (Cont'd)

  1. 8
    Securely close air bleeder.
  2. 9
Fill reservoir tank with coolant up to "MAX" level.
Line drawing of the coolant reservoir tank showing the 'MAX.' and 'MIN.' level marks with the coolant level filled to the MAX line.
    SMA412B
  3. 10
Warm up engine at about 2,000 rpm to normal operating temperature.
  4. 11
Stop engine and allow it to cool.
  5. 12
Check coolant level and refill reservoir tank if necessary.

INFORMATION

Cooling System Check

HOSE AND CLAMP CHECK

Check hoses for improper attachment, leaks, cracks, damage, loose connections, chafing and deterioration.

Radiator Cap Check

  1. 1
Check relief pressure with cap tester. Replace radiator cap if pressure is not within the specified values.
Line drawing of a hand attaching a radiator cap tester to the radiator filler neck to check the cap relief pressure. Tool reference EG17650301 also shown at bottom left.
    SLC613
  2. 2
Pull the negative-pressure valve to open it, and check that it closes completely when released.
Line drawing of a hand holding the radiator cap, pulling the negative-pressure valve to check that it closes completely when released.

Radiator cap relief pressure (CD17)CD17
59 - 98 (0.59 - 0.98 bar, 0.6 - 1.0 kg/cm², 9 - 14 psi)kPa
Radiator cap relief pressure (CD20)CD20
88 - 127 (0.88 - 1.27 bar, 0.9 - 1.3 kg/cm², 13 - 18 psi)kPa

COOLING SYSTEM LEAK CHECK

Apply pressure to the cooling system with cap tester to check for leakage.
Testing pressure
